A beautiful island campground thickly forested with spruce, fir, and birch, Four Acre Woods was created over 60 years ago on Sunshine Island, Maine. Under the name Sunshine Campground, it hosted people from all over the world and delivered the spirit and essence of this ancient, abundant land that so many ancestors had roamed and celebrated before. It was open to the public through to the 90s, but then sat alone for 15 years, waiting for someone to revive it and bring it back to the world. Then one day, Caleb and Wolf met on a bus, heading south from Down East Maine, where they instantly connected and joined forces. They worked together redressing a home in Stonington for visitors to experience and became brothers while doing so. Eventually, the presence and opportunity of the campground caught their attention and after working out the technicalities, they worked together to bring this beautiful land and campground back to the people under its new life and name, Four Acre Woods. Bradbury Mountain and several trail networks are nearby, along with rivers, ocean beaches, and an excellent locavore food scene. Since the early 1800s, this land on the edge of Chandler Brook has nourished bodies and spirits alike. Sloping pastures meet well-managed woodlands, making this a haven for both humans and wildlife. Since the 1980s, we have worked to restore the soil and make a "hand-built" life as farmers using pre-industrial organic methods. We keep bees, maintain pollinator habitats, tend an orchard of heirloom-variety fruit trees, and conserve rare heritage-breed animals, including Tamworth and Mangalitsa pigs and Scottish Highland Cattle. Our shared love for Celtic folk culture has blended naturally with our love of sustainable agriculture to create Tir na nOg Farm. Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. This land is already better than we found it, but we hope it will remain a gathering-ground of culture and agriculture, tradition and innovation for generations to come.

Before you make a reservation read the description of each sit, there a 4 different names with different options. . Read all of the info, when you submit your request please include/verify the following info: Is everyone in your group at least 21?/No kids or pets traveling with you.? What sort or camping unit.? Tent/RoofTent/RV/Hammock/Trailer./Van.? Your reservation request will not be accepted until we have those responses so including that with your reservation request is what we need to know. Several of us live/work/answer messages here. Clarity with your request is beneficial. Our camping section is located on the property of Kisma Preserve. Home to black bear, local mammals , and our favorite, wolves. Most of the staff live here full time all year. The sounds of the night are magical. Unleash your imagination and camp here away from the crowds you may find within the local Acadia National Park area which begins about 5 minutes away at Thompson’s Island and the bridge to Mt Desert Island. We are close to basic necessities, and a step away from the masses. We do educational tours daily and if interested these tours are arranged by reservation too. We may allow camping in Winter months but if it is between November and May it is very important to call and find out the accessibility as weather impacts everything. The shower will likely be unavailable in freezing months and some sites are closed. CALL and speak with a staff member before reserving. Self contained Adventure Vans and tent campers with Winter Gear and Rooftop Tents can be accommodated. Or If you want to have a solid roof , screens and a fabulous view ask about reserving our Cadillac Mountain View Loft or if the idea of being naked under the stars is appealing opt for our Raw and Rough site.! Pulling in late, and leaving early for a typical Sunrise reservation.? We can also accommodate that if we know that is all you want. Traveling with your horse.? Talk to us about an Equine site. The Biker’s Bunkhouse is ideal for motorcycle travelers as it shelters both the guest and the Bike/s. Always call, we can answer all questions to get you into the right site for your style of adventuring. With each listing be sure to read all the information. If you are interested in a spontaneous camping adventure, if your luggage got lost or if you just don’t want to deal with transporting camping gear we can connect you with a local gear renter who can supply you with a basic box of necessities including a tent. Last minute reservation requests may not work via the reservation site but we may very likely have a space. Our cabin is an off grid post and beam structure that we built 6 years ago. It's got a full kitchen, wood stove, and screened porch. The water is limited as is the electricity - there is a 60 gallon tank and two batteries charged by solar. Which means if we are without sun for a few days, this will effect the batteries for the lights and the water pump. We also fill a 150 gallon potable water tank outside of the cabin to supply water in the event the power runs out (we also provide a 5 gallon jug to bring water inside from the tank). There are a generous supply of lanterns (both battery and inflatable solar) flashlights and string lights for back up lighting. This is a small two story timber frame cabin off grid and secluded deep in the woods. It has limited water/power with a separate outhouse. The cabin has a king sized bed in the loft with a child size fold down bunk above it; there is also a pull out couch on the first floor. As well as a kitchen, screened in porch and fire pit. Linen, dishes and utensils are not included please bring all that you need. There is a propane 4 burner stove with oven and solar shower bags. Trash and campfire wood is included. We are very busy with kids and work, we try our best to clean and re-supply between guests but it is not always possible, please let us know if something needs attention!

When we first purchased our property, we were made aware of a young fella needing a spot to set up his yurt. He lived with us for two years before moving along. We had enjoyed having him and his yurt on our land so when he left, It left a virtual and metaphorical hole. A couple years later we had an opportunity to purchase a yurt from an outdoor adventure company and so it began. We improved upon our tenant's idea by adding a proper outhouse and outdoor shower area. The space offered us a quiet haven during hectic times and now we are ready to share that opportunity. Our yurt sits on a quiet and private nook on our 7 acre property. We are right in between Kennebunk and Biddeford so there are quite a number of areas to explore if you make us your home base. It is a lovely 6 mile ride to Goose Rocks Beach or you can spend an afternoon walking around Dock's Square in Kennebunkport. Biddeford is a rapidly rebuilding mill town that has made several high profile food and travel publications for its great dining spots. If you are visiting to get away from the city, we are less than a mile away from the Eastern Trail which connects South Portland to Kittery, ME. Bring a bike or plan a quiet walk. We have a little fire pit so feel free to spend the day here and enjoy the birds. We hope to see you soon Kelly and Jason
